the initial thing to do when measuring for carpet or flooring is to map out on a piece of graph paper a blueprint of all the areas you are going to carpet. leave the measurements at the moment this will come later. just map out the areas roughly to the shape they are it does not have to be too detailed just a rough shape will be fine if you have stairs draw them as a long rectangular shape and write how many stairs make sure you draw the rooms and the stairs like a blueprint so it looks like a bird's eye view After deciding what carpet or flooring you want and are satisfied with your floor plan you can now start to measure the rooms etc. When measuring it is very important to measure the biggest point so be sure you measure right into doorways as this is what most people over look. Just take your time to look in the room and be sure you have accounted for all the areas in the room. most material is 4 and 5 meters in width so take this into account ie.where joins will go if required or how much excess will there be to do other areas. Draw arrows on your plans to which way the carpet will run this will make it easier when estimating what size carpet you will need. always be very careful when calculating out how much material you will need if unsure call a carpet company as this will save you money. Now you have your layout star to write down what sizes of material you will need do not order by square meter this never works always order by lengths you should by now know the width of your carpet take this into consideration. start
